If you hold a bachelor's degree in any major and you're ready to change careers to become an elementary, middle or high school teacher, FSU’s Master of Arts in Teaching program is the preparation you need to make a move to a new career. This is an accelerated teacher certification option that will provide you with a master's degree in one year.
Choose from two distinct options:
Master of Arts in Teaching – Elementary
Students with a bachelor's degree in any field may qualify. After completing this 12-month program that includes extensive field experiences you will be ready to take the helm of a grade 1-6 classroom.
Master of Arts in Teaching – Secondary
This program is ideal for those who hold a bachelor's degree or equivalent coursework in art, biology, chemistry, physics, math, English, a foreign language, music or social studies. You will earn an education degree with extensive field experience in one year and be ready to teach in a middle or high school classroom grades 7-12.

MAT in Elementary program at the University System of Maryland in Hagerstown, MD.
MAT in Secondary program on the FSU campus in Frostburg, MD.
Master of Arts in Teaching Program Highlights

Perform your practicum in a local school in Allegany, Garrett, Washington or Frederick counties.

Students will spend 100 days of the school year in teaching practicum.

Choose to follow a Bachelor to Master of Arts in Teaching Secondary Pathway; or a Combined Program.

Option to Current FSU Undergraduates. If you are a current FSU undergraduate student majoring in the biology, chemistry, physics, earth science, art or music -- you can take part in the Bachelor’s to Master's pathway or combined program resulting in completion of both your bachelor's degree and Master of Arts in Teaching Secondary in five years.
