The Lane University Center & Event Services has several teams of student staff members who assist us in maintaining the "Living Room of the Campus" and in producing amazing events on the Frostburg State University Campus.  This site has been designed to guide you through our employment opportunities as well as our internship opportunities.   

At the present time, we are fully staffed for fall 2024 and are not accepting applications for employment.  

The Lane University Center accepts applications on a rolling basis, with a targeted hiring process that begins in March with start dates for the following fall term and October with start dates for the following spring term.  

For our summer Event Services Assistant position, we begin the hiring process in February with most positions being fully staffed by April.  

Position Descriptions (Employment)

  • Building Manager Position Description
      •  

    The Student Building Manager(s) are members of the Lane University Center team and are appointed on an at-will basis.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    OPERATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
      • Paraprofessional position acting as a public relations liaison for the Lane University Center and Frostburg State University.
      • Assists in the identification and solution of problems relating to building security, facilities management, physical plant, maintenance, and patron behavior.
      • Maintains constant observation of building events and occupants' behavior, with the purpose of creating an atmosphere appropriate to specific building areas.
      • Assigns duties and supervises approximately 20 student employees in the areas of the Information Desk, Game Room, Fitness Center, and Computer Lab.
      • Advises the Director, Assistant Director, Event Management Coordinator, and Technical Services Coordinator as to the direction of personnel management activities such as personal utilization, personnel authorization, and labor requirements.
      • Facilitate and organize events and event setups. Supervise the Lane University Center and/or Lyric Theater and associated student staff(s) during the evening, weekend, and holiday operations as well as other times when directed.
      • Demonstrate a solid working knowledge of the Information Desk, Game Room, Fitness Center, and Computer Lab operations. Assist persons using the Lane University Center facilities and provide exceptional customer service.
      • Schedule Building Manager, Information Desk, Game Room, Fitness Center, and Risk Management staff(s) as needed or as directed.
      • Implement and enforce proper procedures for building operations including opening and closing duties. Lock and secure the Lane University Center at the end of each night and open the building when necessary or required.
      • In conjunction with other student building managers, technical student managers, and professional staff, ensure the security and welfare of the building at all times.
      • Become familiar with general repairs, proper cleaning and maintenance of meeting rooms, and the Alice R. Manicur Assembly Hall. Ensure proper maintenance and care of Audio/Visual equipment. Responsible for cleaning, organizing, inventorying, and maintaining storage areas.
      • Enforce Lane University Center policies, procedures, guidelines, rules, and regulations.
      • Supervise and assist in cash operations, ensuring accurate and proper denominations of cash at all times. Perform operational closeouts on cash registers and money bags, verifying documentation provided by the area employee.
      • Attend regularly scheduled student manager meetings and area meetings, as well as bi-weekly one-on-one’s with Director, Assistant Director, Event Management Coordinator, and/or Technical Services Coordinator. When required, attend Production Meetings, Event Consultations, Student Manager Meetings, etc.
      • Facilitate and build exceptional and professional work relationships with campus partners including Student and Community Involvement, Lane University Center, Housekeeping, University Police, Frostburg Dining, Facilities Management/Physical Plant, etc.
      • Make consistent and routine rounds, promoting the Lane University Center’s customer-focused philosophy. Setup furnishings and audio/visual equipment, open and close meeting rooms, and greeting customers utilizing the LUC. 
      • Inspects and evaluates Lane University Center operations with goals of system efficiency and proper employee appearance, attitude, and performance.
      • Locates eligible replacements when assigned employees are absent or late.
      • Responsible for shift changeovers, operations closeouts, etc.
      • Assists with employee recruitment, selection, orientation, training, and evaluation.
      • Assists and advises in the development of, and changes to, operational policies and procedures.
      • Assists in coordinating building operations and building checks during shutdown periods. May be required to work during University breaks and holidays.
      • Complete daily reporting on guest attendance counts, employee performance matters, reservation-related requests, and facility updates to include damage, repairs needed, and general appearance.
      • Perform associated administrative tasks and other duties as assigned by the Director, Assistant Director, Event Management Coordinator, or Technical Services Coordinator.
    EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
    • Must be a mature Frostburg State University student in good academic standing. A 2.75 Cumulative Grade Point Average is required. Must have the ability to organize, direct, and supervise activities and operations within the Lane University Center and Lyric Theater. 
    • Previous experience in customer service, event supervision, facility or area operations, and
      student leadership is preferred.
    • Must have a high energy level and strong communication and organizational skills to
      succeed.
    • Must possess relevant skills, and have the ability to use computers and software programs
      including, but not limited to, Microsoft Word and Excel, as well as electronic mail systems
      (e-mail).

    DIFFICULTY

    Complexity: The supervisor's position inherently brings with it many varied decisions. Because of the thousands of events that take place in the Lane University Center, Student Managers are expected to discern deviations from standard policies and procedures to further the goals of the Lane University Center.

    Scope and Effect: Successful efforts of the Student Manager lead to the coordinated, efficient, and meaningful service the Lane University Center provides. Their job affects both patron services and the facility atmosphere.

    RESPONSIBILITY

    Supervisory Controls: Duties assigned by the Director, Assistant Director, Event Management Coordinator, and/or Technical Services Coordinator. 

    Guidelines: Recommends to Director both emergency and long-term areas of concern, and suggests appropriate courses of action. Must maintain open channels of communications between Director, Assistant Director, Event Management Coordinator, Technical Services Coordinator, other student managers, all student employees, as well as all staff employed by the Lane University Center.

    ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS

    Physical Requirements: Student Building Managers must do a great deal of walking. They are on their feet during the majority of the shift. They must have enough stamina to endure this on a regular basis. Frequently, they must lift, setup, and carry a variety of heavy equipment. Work Environment: The work environment is safe, pleasant, and comfortable.

      • Reservations Office Assistant

        Reservations Office Assistant

        The Reservations Office Assistant(s) are members of the Lane University Center team and are appointed on an at-will basis. 

        Duties and Responsibilities:

        OPERATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

        • Paraprofessional position acting as a public relations liaison for the Lane University Center and Frostburg State University.
        • Review, enter, and confirm – as needed or appropriate – requests for reservations in a variety of campus facilities including, but not limited to, the Lane University Center, Lyric Theater, and all Academic Spaces except for the Performing Arts Center and Cordts Physical Education Center. 
        • Act as an administrative assistant(s) for the Lane University Center (LUC) and Student and Community Involvement (SCI) office suite. 
        • Greet guests to the SCI Office Suite and act as gatekeepers for the offices. 
        • Schedule, as directed, appointments for various professional staff members.
        • Monitor the Computer Lab, ensuring the area is neat, presentable, and well-stocked for use by the campus community. 
        • Assists in the identification and solution of problems relating to building security, facilities management, and physical plant, and maintenance and patron behavior.
        • Maintains constant observation of building events and occupants' behavior, with the purpose of creating an atmosphere appropriate to specific building areas.
        • Advises the Director, Assistant Director, Event Management Coordinator, Technical Services Coordinator, and/or Student Manager(s) as to the direction of personnel management activities such as personal utilization, personnel authorization, and labor requirements.

        • Implement and enforce proper procedures for building operations including opening and closing duties for all areas in the facility. 
        • In conjunction with other student staff, ensure the security and welfare of the building at all times.

          The Technical Services Supervisor(s) are members of the Lane University Center team and are appointed on an at-will basis. 

          Duties and Responsibilities:

          • Assists in identification and solution of problems relating to building security, facilities management, physical plant, and maintenance and patron behavior. Maintains constant observation of building events and occupants' behavior, with the purpose of creating an atmosphere appropriate to specific building areas.
          • Assigns duties and supervises the Technical Services student employees.  Advises the Director, Assistant Director, and Technical Services Coordinator as to the direction of Technical Services personnel management activities such as personal utilization, personnel authorization, and labor requirements.
          • Assists the Director, Assistant Director, and Technical Services Coordinator with employee performance evaluations.
          • Facilitate and organize events and event setups. 
          • Demonstrate a solid working knowledge of the Technical Services operation, technical equipment utilized by the operation, and common and accepted best practices in lighting/sound/facility management.
          • Promotes the Lane University Center’s customer-focused philosophy.  Setup furnishings, fixtures, staging, audio/visual and technical equipment, and greet customers utilizing the Lane University Center, Lyric Theater, and other campus venues as needed or directed.  
          • Responsible for overseeing and directing the set-up of risk management equipment including metal detectors, laptops, ID scanners, and all coat check equipment.
          • In conjunction with building managers and professional staff, ensure the security and welfare of the building at all times.
          • Follow proper procedures for locking and securing the Lane University Center building and/or event venue(s) at the conclusion of events. Enforce Lane University Center policies, procedures, guidelines, and enforce rules and regulations.
          • Become familiar with general repairs and maintenance of meeting rooms and the Alice R. Manicur Assembly Hall.  Ensure proper maintenance and care of Audio/Visual equipment.  Responsible for cleaning, organizing, inventorying, and maintaining storage areas.

          • Facilitate and build exceptional and professional relationships with campus partners including Housekeeping, University Police, Frostburg Dining, Facilities Management/Physical Plant, clients, and guests using the facilities. 
          • Inspects and evaluates technical operations with goals of system efficiency and proper employee appearance, attitude, and performance.
          • Responsible for compiling reports and logs to assess, review, manage various events, reservations, operations, and technical equipment.
          • Locates eligible replacements when assigned employees are absent or late. Responsible for shift changeovers, operations closeouts, etc.   
          • Plans, coordinates, delivers, and assists with employee recruitment, selection, orientation, and training.

          ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS

            Technical Services Crew

            The Technical Services Student Technician(s) are members of the Lane University Center team and are appointed on an at-will basis. 

            Duties and Responsibilities:

            OPERATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

            • Acting as a technical liaison for the Lane University Center and Frostburg State University when supporting events with technical needs.
            • Advises the Technical Services Tech Supervisor(s) or Technical Services Coordinator to any issues regarding equipment, events, or clients.
            • Organizes event setups with the help of the Technical Services Coordinator and/or a Technical Services Supervisor. 
            • Promote the Lane University Center’s customer-focused philosophy.  Setup furnishings, fixtures, staging, audio/visual and technical equipment, and greet customers utilizing the Lane University Center, Lyric Theater, and other campus venues as needed or directed. 
            • Demonstrates a working knowledge of the Technical Services operation and technical equipment utilized by the operation.
            • Communicates, assists, and works with event managers, clients, and persons using the Lane University Center facilities to ensure customer satisfaction.
            • Performs setup of risk management equipment including metal detectors, laptops, ID scanners and all coat check equipment.
            • In conjunction with building managers and professional staff, ensure the security and welfare of the building at all times.

            RESPONSIBILITY

They must have enough stamina to endure this on a regular basis. On a regular basis, they must lift, setup, and carry a variety of heavy equipment of varying weights.

            • Event Services Assistant
                •  

              Event Services Assistant

              Event Services Assistant(s) play an integral role in the daily management, leadership, and operations of events, camps, and conferences at Frostburg State University. They assist with preparations, facilities management, peer leadership and support, administrative tasks, and guest relations.   

              Event Service Assistant(s) are members of the Lane University Center & Event Services team and are appointed on an at-will basis. 

              Duties and Responsibilities:

              OPERATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

                • Assist with guest/group management including information and document collecting, ensure deadlines are met, and provide direct onsite management.
                • Communicate with guests and other staff daily regarding group logistics through emails, phone calls, and meetings.
                • Assist in the preparation of the residence halls and event venues before group arrivals, such as mail and package distribution, bulletin boards, cleaning, organizing, appropriate signage posted, desk materials set, rooms prepared, meeting rooms setup and opened, etc. This includes lifting and carrying items, including beds, dressers, etc., into the various residence halls as needed or directed.  
                • Prepare conference guest rosters and room assignments when appropriate.  Prepare key packets before, and inventory all keys following, each conference.  Complete room checks before and following guest stay.  Assist with room preparation (distribution of new linen, toiletries, welcome information, etc.).  Monitor linen room inventory. 
                • Assist conference guests with check-in and check-out and registration.  Assist in accurate key management including maintenance of key inventories.
                • Provide safety and security to summer program participants by being present during scheduled hours.  This may include doing building walkthroughs and working hospitality desk shifts during the overnight hours.  Frequent evening and weekend work is required. 
                • Know, understand, and properly execute all emergency procedures.  Inform and assist guests (when possible) of responsibilities during emergencies such as fire, severe weather, medical emergency, etc.
                • Serve in on-call crisis management rotation that can include ensuring building safety and security and appropriate policy enforcement for conference guests. 
                • Participate in scheduled desk shifts, on-call duty/nightly rounds, and administrative hours when necessary.  Manage hospitality desk supplies appropriately.  Handle lost and found items according to policy and procedure.  Assist with logging packages and distributing mail.  Assist in maintaining efficient front desk operations; complete and review front desk & duty logs regularly.  Manage supplies, binders, and other resources available at hall front desks.
                • This position requires flexible scheduling and availability at various hours, seven days a week. 
                • Assists in the identification and solution of problems relating to campus security, facilities management, physical plant, maintenance, and patron behavior.
                • Maintains constant observation of events and occupants' behavior to create an appropriate atmosphere.  This includes direct supervision of minors in a group setting, such as crossing guard shifts and general group supervision.  
                • Advises the Director, Assistant Director(s), Event Management Coordinator(s), Technical Services Coordinator, and/or Student Manager(s) as to the direction of personnel management activities such as personal utilization, personnel authorization, and labor requirements.
                • Facilitate and organize events and event setups as directed or required. 
                • Enforce Frostburg State University policies, procedures, guidelines, rules, and regulations.
                • Facilitate and build exceptional and professional work relationships with campus partners including Student Affairs, Residence Life, Athletics, ID Office, Housekeeping, University Police, Frostburg Dining, Facilities Management/Physical Plant, etc. 
                • Complete daily and end of conference reporting on guest attendance count, guest performance matters, related requests, and facility updates to include damage, repairs needed, and general appearance.  Draft end of conference reports.  Prepare group bills and financial reports. 
                • Create directional & informational signage appropriate to specific camps/conferences.  Perform associated administrative tasks and other duties as assigned by the Director, Assistant Director, Event Coordinator, or Technical Services Coordinator.

              EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

              Must be a mature Frostburg State University student in good academic standing. A 2.5 Cumulative Grade Point Average is required. Must have the ability to organize, direct, and supervise activities and operations. 

              Must have a high energy level and strong communication and organizational skills to succeed.

              Must possess relevant skills and have the ability to use computers and software programs including, but not limited to, Microsoft Word and Excel, as well as electronic mail systems (e-mail).

              DIFFICULTY

              Complexity: The position inherently brings with it many varied decisions. Because of the thousands of events that take place, student employees are expected to discern deviations from standard policies and procedures to further the goals of the operation.

              Scope and Effect: Successful efforts of the Event Services Assistant(s) lead to the coordinated, efficient, and meaningful service the department provides. Their job affects both patron services and campus atmosphere.

              RESPONSIBILITY

              Supervisory Controls: Duties assigned by the Director, Assistant Director, Event Coordinator, Technical Services Coordinator, and/or Student Managers.    

              Guidelines: Recommends to supervisor(s) both emergency and long-term areas of concern and suggests appropriate courses of action. Must maintain open channels of communications between all student staff and the Director, Assistant Director, Event Coordinator, Technical Services Coordinator, other student managers, all student employees, as well as all staff employed.

              ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS

              Physical Requirements: Event Services Assistant (s) must do a great deal of walking, standing, and moving materials.  Continuous physical labor, heavy lifting, bending, exposure to cleaning chemicals, and outdoor work with exposure to the elements will all be part of the position description.  While sometimes seated for a portion of their shift, they must have enough stamina to endure standing, sitting, and various movements required for cleaning and maintenance on a regular basis.

              Work Environment: The work environment is safe, pleasant, and comfortable.
